ABOUT PRIMARY

Welcome to Primary!

For children ages 3 to 6 years—

The Montessori Primary Program is an active, self-paced learning environment for all five senses. Children cultivate the five areas of the Montessori Curriculum, including: Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, Language and Culture, and develop competence through repetition and practice.

Our Primary classrooms offer a relaxed and stimulating environment where children may learn at their own pace in a noncompetitive fashion. The results are a love of learning, a positive self-image, and a sense of self-direction that forms a strong foundation for future growth in the classroom and beyond.

Primary Learning Goals

  • Practical Life: Children learn to care for themselves, others, and the classroom

  • Culture: Including visual arts, music, drama, dance, geography, cultural studies, botany, science, and much more.

  • Sensorial: Children explore the world through their senses.

  • Language: Children increase language skills and learn to write, read, and analyze grammar.

  • Mathematics: Children learn to count and skip count to 1000, solve 4-digit operations in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division by exploring concrete materials.

Primary Lead Guide

A Note from our Primary Lead Guide, Taylor Beck:

I hold an AMI Montessori 3–6 Diploma and graduated from Southern Methodist University with degrees in Psychology and Philosophy, plus minors in Chinese, Cognitive Science, and Educational Studies. Having grown up in Montessori schools, I bring a lifelong passion for this educational approach. I am dedicated and hardworking, passionate about creating a nurturing, supportive, and stimulating learning environment that fosters creativity and independence for each student. I’m excited to be a part of your child’s educational journey!

Primary Environment

The Primary Montessori classroom is a carefully curated prepared-environment that will help support the development of children, ranging in age from 3 to 6 years old. We have mix-age groupings, allowing younger children to learn from the activities of the older children, and providing the older children opportunities to teach and nurture the younger child. Each child may choose what to work on and with whom to work. The Primary Montessori classroom will help cultivate the child’s social and independent skills, foster the child’s love for learning, and provide an aid for life, as well as prepare them for elementary schools.

“The little child’s first movements were instinctive.  Now, he acts consciously and voluntarily, and with this comes an awakening of his spirit…. Conscious will is a power which develops with use and activity.  We must aim at cultivating the will…. Its development is a slow process that evolves through a continuous activity in relationship with the environment.”
